Optensity is changing the way commercial companies and government agencies build, deploy, and use analytics for intelligence, cyber, spacecraft, and ISR domains. Their AppSymphony™ software helps these customers leverage existing applications as wells as collaborate and create new ones in cloud environments. By leveraging the power of AppSymphony™, users can build new analytic Apps in minutes or hours instead of days or weeks. Using AppSymphony™, Optensity’s clients have built analytic Apps that are already satisfying today’s needs while their competitors are waiting for traditional software development cycles to finish. The AppSymphony™ platform allows analysts and subject matter experts to exploit the power of Big Data in scalable cloud infrastructures, including Hadoop, without requiring them to be experts in cloud software development.
Optensity envisions a world where analysts can rapidly capture their own information exploitation techniques, processes, and strategies as Apps that transparently execute across a scalable infrastructure.
Dr. Paul Runkle and Professor Larry Carin founded SIG in 2004 to continue and extend applied defense research that originated in an academic setting at Duke University. SIG’s initial work focused on radar signal processing for combat target identification, sonar‐based automatic target recognition (ATR), and airborne minefield detection. SIG’s application areas quickly grew to include unexploded ordnance (UXO) detection, IED detection, and video image analysis including target detection, tracking, classification, and activity models. To address a critical customer need across multiple applications, SIG has also developed Analyst‐in‐the‐Loop (AIL) technologies that enable algorithms to utilize operator or analyst feedback to enhance the performance of their models. This approach leverages the speed and consistency of an algorithm, with the accuracy and contextbased decisions that can be provided by an analyst or warfighter.

For several years now, a number of mathematical, scientific, acquisition, and analysis disciplines have been converging as components of a larger discipline—geospatial intelligence. Geospatial intelligence has become the cornerstone of our national and homeland security through its place at the functional center of many diverse intelligence methods.
Recently, the private sector is experiencing a similar convergence of geospatial intelligence disciplines. From this, USGIF was formed, becoming the first and only foundation where members can work together—toward a mutual goal of improving our nation’s homeland security through the benefits of their work.
USGIF is the only organization of its kind aimed at bringing together the many disciplines involved in the geospatial intelligence sector to exchange ideas, share best practices, and promote the education and importance of a national geospatial intelligence agenda.
